Minutes of 2015 AGM

The Waltham Chase AGM was held on the 21st October 2015 at The Ship Inn Redbridge.

There were 22 members present; this was confirmed to be a quorum, a sufficient representation of the membership to agree any proposed changes for 2016.

Chairman’s Report

2015 has been another good year for Waltham Chase, but only made possible with the help of a team of very willing and dedicated helpers, all in fact so dedicated that none have resigned their 2015 club positions.

Waltham Chase currently has 198 named members, 10 more than in 2014.

In the last 12 months Waltham Chase  has held a total of 25 trials, a Camping Weekend, a quiz night, an “Awards Presentation”, displayed at the very wet Netley Marsh Country Fair , and just for good measure squeezed in a couple of practice days.

The Late Christmas Quiz proved to an entertaining evening, with Steve Earle proving again that he is a man of many talents. The Quiz is booked again in 2016 on Friday the 29th of January. Note for Clive Wilson – you are in our team!

We have made a couple of web site updates and have added pages for both Club Championships; we thank Ian Bird for “crunching the championship numbers”. There is more web development planned for 2016. Web site activity stats were shared, showing that over 600 unique visitors visited the site last month, along with other data.

Waltham Chase has an active “veteran” membership and we are again pleased to report an increasing number of younger members. It would be good to see some more twin shock and Pre 65 riders – where have they all gone? What can we do to get them riding in Waltham Chase Trials?

This year the Camping Weekend, held for a second year at Cadnam, attracted over 80  camper, including some from outside of the Centre, who enjoyed two days sport, some family activities along with the now infamous BBQ and campfire sing song.

The 2016 Camping Weekend is already being planned, again at Cadnam, with more physical and musical challenges being proposed by our “entertainments committee”.

We thank Mark Parry-Norton for allowing us to use his land and for the charity donations raised through the use of this venue, which have been presented to the nominated beneficiaries.

The problem of finding “observers” has continued to be an issue throughout 2015, and we hope to come up with some solutions at the AGM. Observing can be a thankless task so let’s do all we can to look after the volunteers.

Sam, our mobile caterer, has kept us well fed and watered throughout 2015 and will be attending our full day events in 2016.

There will be no catering at Saturday afternoon Trials – unless we confirm to the contrary on the website.

Sometimes we do get things wrong. In an effort to get riders to pre-book for “Centre” events we imposed a £5.00 “on the day surcharge” at the Geoff Chandler. (Pre-booking helps us get the Programme Completed in advance of the event).

£5.00 was possibly too much, for which we apologise – however award winners from this Trial will benefit from better awards this year from the additional revenue!

If we do anything wrong please tell us – we want an easy life, enjoy the sport and happy members!

  • No self marking is permitted at any Trial.
  • Riders are asked to respect Observers and raise any protests with the COC.
  • To give observers a lunch break the Clerk of the Course will organise lunch time cover or arrange for refreshments to be taken to the sections.
  • Observers, taking a break, should go to the front of the "Burger Van" Queue.

The “C Words”

Christmas, Club and Clothing

Try as you may, you will not be able to get away from the fact that Christmas is just around the corner, however Waltham Chase will try and ease some of the pain by giving you other things to do to keep you occupied.

We have the Turkey and Tinsel Trial, The Dick Hoyle’s on New Year’s Eve and The Late Christmas Quiz already booked to keep you away from the shops.

But what about presents for your loved ones? Imagine the sheer delight for someone near and dear to you waking up on Christmas morning, to find a Waltham Chase baseball cap or polo shirt under the tree?

The full range of Waltham Chase Club clothing will be available to purchase at Trials on the 1st and 7th of November, with special orders being taken for out of stock items.

Prices are: T Shirts £10.00, Polo Shirts £12.00, Hoody £15.00, Fleece £20.00, Body Warmer £29.00 and Base Ball caps £7.00.

The Committee Shield

This is an extra date in our calendar, Saturday the 7th November, to give members the opportunity to ride over the “Remembrance Weekend”. This Trial, which is being held at Hut Hill, will commence at 11.00, as some setting out may be completed before the start. Further details will be uploaded to the website home page.

This Trial will be at about the same level as a Youth and Wobblers event – nothing too challenging!

The George Greenland Trophy Trial

It’s back to Butser Lime Works on Sunday the 22nd November for this Southern Centre Championship Round, which is open to all ACU affiliated riders. An entry form is available to down load from the website.

Due to the nature of the venue we regret that there is no E class at this Trial.

Club Championship – Round 8 – “The Turkey and Tinsel Club Trial”

This trial, the final round of the 2015 Championship series, will be held at Hut Hill on Sunday 6th December, the start time will be 10.00.

Your unique ACU registration number, required to affiliate with the ACU, will be on the reverse of your 2016 membership card. The codes are now available.
