Trials Helmets

Following a report from a Technical Official, the issue of Trials Helmets is now under review.

This is an important subject that tends to get over looked until someone has an accident.

As a reminder, Cycle Helmets are not permitted at any Trial.

TrialGB Regulations go further & state standard ECE22.05, ECE22. 06, BS6658:1985 which essentially covers all road legal motorcycle helmets.

Not currently a Club level ruling, but I am sure one day it will be.

This is not a case of “Big Brother” imposing strict rules. It’s all about doing the right thing. We do not want to get into the game of buying stickers from eBay to make a dodgy helmet look safe.

Heads are pretty fragile and break easily! Keep safe.

Youth Classifications and E Bikes

Youth electric bikes are now classified in TSR’s as maximum machine capacity in KW instead of Horsepower as there is no way to measure HP without a rolling road.

The maximum KW can be found on manufacturers specifications, usually displayed on the bikes electric motor & if required can be measured using a multi-meter.

The limits of maximum machine capacity of 7KW & 5KW in practice will comfortably allow youth bikes such OSET, Triumph, TRS, Neutra etc, to compete, however the EM Epure is rated at much higher KW & therefore should be considered as an adult only bike.

Please seek professional advice if you need further clarification. We are sharing  this information to assist in any bike purchase decision to prevent a Youth Rider from being denied entry to a Trial due to machine KW rating.

Youth Back Protectors

As from January 1st 2027 it will be a mandatory requirement for all Youth Riders to wear a back protector whilst competing in any Trial.

This rule is currently mandatory for TrialGB events. Again, this should be seen as a positive move, helping to keep our younger riders safe.

Back protectors are available from various suppliers, including New Forest Off Road.

As with helmets, this is all about safety, and risk management.

Sport80 Enhancements

The ACU and Sport80 do listen to riders comments and suggestions and as a result a number of enhancements will be introduced to the platform in the near future.

A couple of updates that we have been pursuing are the “Rider Number” addition and the ability to purchase One Event licences as part of the entry process are top of the list

We will keep you updated and share information when received.
